10 Days / 9 Nights Adventure in Ghana

Day One

This will be your first introduction to Accra! We will visit the following sites:

Independence Arch – located at Independence Square, this arch is a monument commemorating Ghana’s independence in 1957.
Black Star Square – a public square in Accra where annual Independence Day events are held, and other notable events. With a capacity of over 500,000 this is one of the largest public meeting spaces in Accra. An iconic symbol of Ghana’s independence and a must-see on any Ghana tour.

Dr. Kwame Nkrumah Museum – a beautiful tribute to the life of Ghana’s first president and the visionary behind Ghana’s independence. The newly renovated museum boasts pictures and personal artifacts. The museum site stands on the premises of the location of Dr. Kwame Nkrumah’s iconic and liberating speech declaring Ghana’s independence. Dr. Kwame Nkrumah and his wife Fathia Nkrumah are also buried on the grounds.

Accra Art Center – a haven of all things artisanal and made-in-Ghana. There, you will find authentic Kente cloths, sculptures, wooded and metal art, beads, handcrafted items, paintings, etc. Drumming lessons are also offered here! You will certainly enjoy this.

Makola Market –Accra’ biggest and most exciting local market. This will give you a firsthand view of how typical Ghanaians shop for their families.
Take a Look!

Jamestown- This is the oldest district in Accra and the ancestral home of the Ga peoples. A highly dense and populated area that is a well-known fishing community. Notable attractions include the Jamestown Lighthouse (built in 1871), the harbor, and the boxing gym that has spawn greats like Azumah Nelson.

Day Two

Shai Hills / Akosombo Day Trip
This will be our first day trip outside of Accra! We will visit the following sites:

Shai Hills Resource Reserve – We will visit this nature reserve which combines conservation, rich cultural and archaeological sites with scenic and beautiful views. You will learn about the history and see artifacts left behind by the Krobo / Shai people. This tour is adventurous and involves climbing and exploring. Get your walking or hiking boots ready and let’s go!

Volta River – We will enjoy a peaceful and relaxing boat ride on the Volta River notable for its fishing communities and the Adomi Bridge. The Volta River powers electricity for Ghana (and neighboring countries) through the Akosombo Dam which you will also hear about on the trip.

Day Three

Aburi / Boti (Eastern Region Part 1)
Another fun day trip outside of Accra! We will visit the following sites:

Aburi Botanical Gardens – located within the beautiful Akwapim hills, this garden is filled with trees and exotic plants, birds. The gardens were instrumental in the cultivation of cocoa and rubber plants in Ghana dating back to the late 1800s. The garden boasts hundreds of medicinal plants, an elegant Palm tree walkway that is 274 metres long, and other sites.

Boti Falls – A twin waterfall located in the Huhunya forest. The most visited waterfall in the Eastern Region. Minimal hiking is required, and of course swimwear.

Umbrella Rock – A rock formation found in the Krobo district notable as a tourist picture spot.

Three headed-palm tree – a rare, sacred three headed cactus palm. A very exciting site to see.

Tetteh Quarshie Cocoa Farm – The very first cocoa farm in Ghana founded by the legendary Tetteh Quarshie with imported cocoa seeds from Equatorial Guinea. An on-site museum houses relics and artifacts used by Quarshie himself as well as displays of the history of cocoa in Ghana.

Day Four

Cape Coast overnight trip. *CHECKOUT FROM HOTEL REQUIRED*
This will be our first overnight day trip outside of Accra! We will visit the following sites:

Kakum National Park and Canopy Walk – a breathtaking natural treasure located in Ghana's Central Region. This national park, founded in 1992, covers around 375 square kilometers (145 square miles) and is recognized for its magnificent tropical rainforest, diverse fauna, and unique canopy walkway.

Cape Coast Castle or Elmina Castle – both are two historic monuments on Ghana's coast. The castles features cramped dungeons were enslaved Africans were held captive under inhumane conditions before being shipped across the Atlantic. These imposing structures will offer you a somber but essential opportunity to reflect on the atrocities of the past and the resilience of those who suffered during this dark period in human history.

Hans Cottage Hotel – set against the backdrop of lush tropical gardens and a picturesque lagoon, it provides a serene and peaceful atmosphere for tourists to unwind. The centerpiece of the hotel is its serene lagoon which is home to friendly and beautiful crocodiles that frequently thrill tourists with their presence.

Day Five

Western Region
Another fun day trip in the Western Region of Ghana! We will visit the following sites:

Nzulezu – a unique and enchanting village located in the Western Region of Ghana. This traditional fishing village is built entirely on stilts above the waters of Lake Tadane in the Amansuri Wetland. It is home to hundreds of people making it one of the few places in the world where daily life unfolds entirely on the water. This tour captures the essence of Ghana's cultural diversity and natural splendor.

Fort Appolonia – a historically significant fort located in Beyin, Ghana's Western Region. This well-preserved fort, built by the British in the 18th century, has served a variety of functions throughout its history, including as a trading station for goods like gold and ivory, military outpost, and subsequently played a role in the transatlantic slave trade. It is a fascinating historical site which offers tourists beautiful views of the Gulf of Guinea.

Fort Metal Cross – also known as Fort Dixcove in Ghana's Western Region, is a historically significant coastal fort. The British built this fort in the 17th century, and it later played a role in the transatlantic slave trade. Visitors can explore the fort's well-preserved rooms, exhibitions, artifacts and the fort's unique design and construction, which comprises strong stone walls, battlements, and cannons that formerly secured the outpost.

The western region of Ghana is known for its beautiful sandy beaches. We will certainly enjoy scenic views along the way. A beach day will be In order if time permits.

Day Six

Drive to Kumasi (Ashanti Region Day trip)

Day Seven

This will be our first day trip in Kumasi! We will visit the following sites:

Kumasi Military Museum: Begin your journey at the Uaddara Barracks, exploring the fascinating displays of war weapons, colors, medals, and more. This museum provides a unique insight into the military traditions, accomplishments, and the cultural heritage of the Ashanti people.

Akomfo Anokye Sword Site: Uncover the legend of Akomfo Anokye, the advisor to Ashanti King Osei Tutu, who drove a sword into the ground, declaring its eternal placement. Known as the "Akomfo Anokye Sword" or the "Sword in the Stone", it symbolizes the unity and strength of the Ashanti Kingdom.

Manhyia Palace Museum: Delve into the customs, artifacts, and regal history of the Ashanti people at this cultural gem situated within the ancient Manhyia Palace. Marvel at a vast collection of royal regalia, relics, and historic images, and enjoy a tour of the palace with its traditional Ashanti architecture.

King Prempeh Jubilee Museum: Pay homage to King Prempeh I, exploring a museum dedicated to one of Ghana's most revered monarchs. Admire a beautiful collection of royal artifacts, including his golden throne, while learning about the Ashanti Kingdom's history and its interactions with British colonial troops.

Dakodwom Kenkey Hub: Take a culinary detour to this bustling hub, renowned for its excellent Ghanaian cuisine. Indulge in the famous kenkey dish made from fermented corn, served with an array of accompaniments such as fish, pepper sauce, and vegetables.

Kejetia Market: Conclude your day at this lively market, a sensory delight filled with bustling crowds, aromatic spices, and street food. From fresh produce to textiles and crafts, the market offers a one-stop shopping experience, providing insights into the daily life, customs, and traditions of Kumasi and Ghana.

Day Eight

Kumasi/Ashanti Region Fun Day Trip(Part 2)

Another fun day trip in Kumasi! We will visit the following sites:

Ntonso Adinkra Craft Village Batik Making–located in the Ashanti Region,brings to life the rich legacy of Adinkra fabric and batik technique. This bustling community is well-known for its elaborate and symbolic batik-making technique. Visitors can observe the complicated batik-making process firsthand and purchase culturally significant gifts such as souvenirs, including apparel, wall hangings, and accessories adorned with Adinkra symbols.

Adanwomase Kente Weaving Center–renowned for its long tradition of Kente weaving, a textile known for its brilliant colors, complicated patterns, and symbolic meaning.The facility is home to highly skilled artisans who create high-quality Kente fabric. Visitors can learn the basics of Kente weaving while making their own little pieces to have a better grasp of this challenging craft.

Yaa Asantewaa Shrine–A famous historical landmark located in Ejisu devoted to the memory of Yaa Asantewaa, a valiant and legendary leader who played a vital part in the Ashanti-British War known as the War of the Golden Stool. The shrine honors Yaa Asantewaa's exceptional leadership and valor in rallying the Ashanti warriors during the War of the Golden Stool in 1900.

Lake Bosomtwe– a beautiful and lovely crater lake with natural and cultural value. It is the only natural lake in the country, formed over a million years ago within an old meteorite impact crater, and is surrounded by beautiful trees and settlements.Lake Bosomtwe and the surrounding area support a varied range of flora and animals, including several bird species, making it a haven for birdwatchers and wildlife enthusiasts.

Boat Ride on Lake –Lake Bosomtwe's clear, crater-formed waters are surrounded by verdant hills, making for an unforgettable boat excursion. You'll have the opportunity to learn about the lake's cultural significance to the Ashanti people and its part in their rituals and traditions while you glide across it.

Cocoa Farm Visit Day– a chance to explore the roots of Ghana's cocoa industry, from the lush fields where cocoa pods grow to the hands that cultivate and nurture this valuable crop.t's a culturally and educationally engaging journey that sheds light on the importance of cocoa in Ghana's history, economy, and daily life.

Akan Naming Rite / Ceremony Day– traditionally this is a joyful ceremony held to officially name newborns and the family and friends celebrate with music, dance, and traditional delicacies. You will get the opportunity to observe this ceremony and be given a name based on the day of your birth.
